Excel Add-In Declares Database Server Not Found

Overview

In a QQube Multi-User environment, the Excel Add-In may report that the QQube database server cannot be found.

Possible Causes

  1. The QQube database service is not running on the server.
  2. QQube was moved to a new server.
  3. The existing server was renamed.
  4. Firewall rules are blocking communication with the QQube database server.

Resolution

1. Confirm the QQube Synchronization User Is Logged In

If every workstation displays the same database-server error, first verify the Windows session where QQube synchronization runs.

Local network implementation: Confirm the server administrative console used for QQube is still signed in. The console may be locked, but it cannot be logged off. QuickBooks should remain open with no company file selected when synchronization is not running.

See Multi-User Local Network Installation for the complete server setup.

Remote Desktop or hosted implementation: Confirm the dedicated QQube synchronization user, typically qqubesynch, is still signed in. Its session timeout must be configured so the account is never logged out, and QuickBooks should remain open with no company file selected when synchronization is not running.

See Multi-User Remote Desktop Installation for the complete synchronization-user setup.

2. Search for the QQube Database Server

If the QQube synchronization user is logged in:

  1. Select OK on the QQube Configuration Tool error message.
  2. Select the button containing three dots.
  3. Wait several seconds while QQube searches the network for an available database server.

3. Test the Workstation Firewall

If QQube reports that no database servers were found, temporarily turn off the Windows firewall on the workstation and repeat the search.

Firewall test only

Turn off the firewall only long enough to test database discovery. Turn it back on immediately after the test.

If database discovery works only while the firewall is off, have your IT administrator allow TCP/IP communication through port 2638.

Windows firewall settings are available under:

Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall > Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off

4. Select the Correct QQube Database Server

When QQube finds the database server, select it from the list.

QQube database server found

Only one QQube database engine

If more than one QQube database server appears, the network contains an incorrect or duplicate installation. Only one QQube database engine should exist on a physical network.

Select Select to return to the database settings window. The discovered database engine or server name should now be displayed.

New QQube database server selected and ready to save

Save the setting. You will then return to the main QQube Configuration Tool window.

Expected Result

The QQube Configuration Tool and Excel Add-In should connect to the selected QQube database server without displaying the database-server-not-found message.
